Hurry Up and Wait in Falmouth
| Definition of Ominous |
After all the hub-bub yesterday, a day on the boat waiting out the weather was more than welcome. Plus, we could do some organizing. We took the rental car to get groceries and then returned it to the airport. The cab ride
back was with a man from Kenya who claimed to have nine children. We were surprised to find that the cab ride
was a precise $61.00 and he didn’t take credit cards, didn't even have a machine. There was a moment of discomfort as Roger said we'd have to come to his house and wash dishes because we didn't have the cash. Once the language barrier was crossed and the driver realized he was kidding, we did what felt
like a group Kenyan hug where we all patted each other on the shoulder – the
way to show respect to a friend in Kenya. Roger says it was more like a "ha sucka" hug for the rate we paid. Seems like the cabbie was happy we paid his exorbitant price without
much complaint.
We did some organizing on the boat, tied up a few loose ends, and sat through a thunderstorm at around 5:00 p.m. that had Levi shivering in his skin. When he was taken ashore on the dinghy, he weathered through a turbulent and choppy ride, standing high on the bow of the dinghy. The height of the storm only lasted an hour, despite the big black clouds in the sky.
